Little did I know that I would continue my photography far into the future and how it would be used in my career.
Composition is an integral piece of video production, whether live-action or animation; it has a great effect on your final product. Like photography, ensuring the viewer's eye is guided to the important elements in the frame is essential. Especially in modern video, where you may only have a couple of seconds to pull the viewer through a scene.
Composition techniques like leading lines, symmetry, and the rule of thirds can create a sense of balance and move the viewer through the frame. You can use it to improve the edit so each cut/transition flows to the next, keeping the audience immersed in the visuals and directing them to where their attention is needed.
Post-production adjustments like lighting, color grading, framing, and visual effects can be used to enhance the composition, making the final product visually appealing and engaging.
It's very easy to just cut images together or build simple animations and call it a day, but with a little thought and by following the viewer's eye throughout the video using composition, you can create a more impactful product.
Composition is a powerful tool in both photography and video production. By thoughtfully guiding the viewer's eye and enhancing the visual narrative, it transforms simple footage into compelling stories. So, whether you're editing a video or capturing a moment in nature, remember that composition is your ally in creating impactful visuals.
Keep experimenting, stay creative, and let your compositions tell your story.
I still find it refreshing to go out and work with nature and challenge myself to try to find a good composition.
